The Chair of Information Systems and Software Engineering (ISSE) studies how people, teams, and organizations develop and use software. We bring theories, methods, and measurements from the social and behavioral sciences into software engineering and information systems research. The chair was established on April 1, 2024.
Research
Our research areas include, but are not limited to:
- Behavioral software engineering and developer well-being: how emotions, stress, and happiness shape software development work and outcomes.
- Software engineering with artificial intelligence (AI) and human-AI collaboration: how large language models and AI agents change software work, and when people trust AI recommendations.
- Applied machine learning for prediction: building and critically evaluating predictive models with real-world data in domains such as agriculture, construction, and industrial maintenance.
- Research methodology, measurement, and evidence quality: validity of metrics and instruments, qualitative methods, and how studies report their results.
- Mining software repositories and open source ecosystems: quantitative analysis of development platforms and communities.
We share our own studies, data, and analysis materials openly whenever ethically and legally possible.
Teaching
We teach information systems and software engineering in the BSc and MSc programs of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences. We connect current research with hands-on development practice, and students use AI tools throughout their coursework. Students can write their thesis with us on topics from our research areas. We supervise both empirical and design-oriented projects. See Courses for the current semester.
